In 2019 I found myself living in my childhood home town. I had gone back to Mexico to enjoy a slower pace of life with my own first born son. It broke my heart and made me very unsettled to see the town overflowing with the excessive use of styrofoam and plastic.
I was in a rare position of having time, influence and $6,000 in my savings. I felt no choice but to put those assets to work. I created presentations to the local camera of restaurant owners and city officials to gain buy-in and eventually began selling compostable take-out containers at wholesale prices with no minimum purchase quantities required. The goal was to be a catalyst for change and it worked! Today the use of compostable products has significantly increased in the town of Tequisquiapan and the city has purchased and put an industrial compost into use.
